Parents as Partners

Parents will be kept fully informed as partners in their child’s activities, achievements and progress.

The registered person and staff will always work in partnership with the parents to meet the needs of the children, both individually and as a group.

During initial discussions parents will be told how they can help their child at home with examples of activities for the child’s educational progress. Parents can discuss with the person in charge any expectations that they would like to see their child achieve.

The child’s daily routine will be fully explained to the parent and they will be kept updated of any changes to these routines. At the end of each day the parents will be informed verbally of their child’s activities and achievements for that day. The child will take home any creative work that they have completed during the day.

If the child’s behaviour changes during the day for any reason the parents will be informed.

Staff are always aware of the need to maintain privacy and confidentiality about matters concerning families and their children. Staff will have read and agreed to the terms in the confidentiality policy.

Records will be kept on various aspects of the child’s development – numeracy, literacy, speaking and listening skills, creativity, social development and awareness of the environment. Parents have the right to look at these records at any time and discuss them with the person in charge.

Children’s work will always be displayed with care. They will also be involved in making wall displays. Parents will be actively encouraged to look at the children’s work displayed around the nursery.

Children will only be released at the end of the session to the parent or named person collecting them. Staff will never release a child to any person other than the named person at the end of the day.

We value the input by parents as partners in the upbringing and care of all children.
